Meeting Buddy: Local Notes from Google Meet Calls
A bot joins my Google Meet call by itself, transcribes it by speaker and writes the notes and action items into my knowledge base. Everything runs at home on my Mac.
About the project
I have dozens of calls a week. I took notes on and off and half of it got lost.
So I built my own bot. It watches my calendar, and when a call with a Google Meet link starts, it joins by itself as "Jindra's meeting buddy". Someone in the call just has to let it in.
After the call I have a transcript by speaker, notes with timestamps and the action items that came out of it in my knowledge base. The action items go straight to my phone.
Neither the recording nor anyone's voice leaves my computer. Transcription runs on a local Whisper model, only text goes to AI for the notes. Off-the-shelf tools for this exist, but here I know exactly where my data is.
What you get
- Notes from every call without typing anything.
- Action items from the call land in my task list.
- Recordings stay at home on my Mac.
- Transcribed in Czech, split by speaker.
How it works (under the hood)
- The open source Vexa bot in Docker joins the Meet.
- Transcription with local whisper.cpp (Large V3).
- Claude Code writes notes and action items from the transcript.
- A scheduler checks the calendar every minute.
